CE Ecstasy of Gold, known at home as Midas, is a homebred colt by Morricone III out of our second-generation mare CE Da Vinci’s Red Red Wine (Rummi). Midas was awarded a High Premium at the 2026 AES Foal Grading, achieving an exceptional 9.25 for his walk, 9 for his trot and 8.75 for his canter. Following the success of his older maternal brother CE Toreador, Midas is another exciting example of the quality Rummi is consistently producing and a young horse we are very excited to develop for the future.

CE Ecstasy of Gold, known at home as Midas, is by Morricone III out of our second-generation homebred mare CE Da Vinci’s Red Red Wine (Rummi). Bringing together the Millennium–Morricone bloodline with Rummi’s established German and Dutch pedigree, he was a mating we were particularly excited about and has impressed us with his quality from the outset.

His sire, Morricone III, is by Millennium out of the Rubin-Royal mare Hartima and is a full brother to Morricone I. He combines an exceptional pedigree with performance in his own right and is currently being campaigned by British international dressage rider Gareth Hughes, successfully competing through Prix St Georges and Intermediate I.

Morricone III’s sire, Millennium, has become one of the most influential dressage sires of his generation, producing numerous licensed stallion sons and successful sport horses. The strength of the family is further demonstrated by Morricone III’s full brother Morricone I, who was named Champion Stallion at the 2014 Oldenburg Licensing before progressing to Grand Prix dressage and establishing an influential breeding career of his own.

On the maternal side of Morricone III’s pedigree sits Rubin-Royal, adding another important Grand Prix performance and breeding influence. This gives Midas a paternal pedigree with considerable depth, combining proven performance with generations of successful stallion production.

Midas’s dam, Rummi, is one of our first second-generation homebred broodmares and is becoming an increasingly important part of our breeding programme. She is by our own CE Sir Fidermeyer out of CE Idonae, bringing together established German and Dutch dressage lines.

Through CE Sir Fidermeyer, Midas carries the influence of Sir Fidergold, Sarkozy, Fidermark and Weltmeyer. Through CE Idonae, the pedigree introduces UB40 and Junior STV. UB40 is particularly well known as the sire of international Grand Prix stallion Apache, while Junior STV combined an exceptional young-horse career with international Grand Prix success with Anky van Grunsven, having won the Pavo Cup as both a four- and five-year-old before progressing through the levels.

Midas therefore combines the Millennium, Morricone III and Rubin-Royal blood with the Sir Fidergold, Weltmeyer, UB40 and Junior STV lines behind Rummi. However, what makes him particularly exciting to us is that he is already beginning to demonstrate quality of his own.

At the 2026 AES Foal Grading, Midas was awarded a High Premium, achieving exceptional marks across all three paces. He received 9.25 for his walk, 9 for his trot and 8.75 for his canter, giving us a particularly exciting early indication of his overall movement quality.

His result also continues an impressive start to Rummi’s career as a broodmare. His older maternal brother, CE Toreador, by Secret Secret, was the highest graded AES foal of 2025. With highly regarded offspring now produced from different stallions, Rummi is beginning to demonstrate the consistency we hoped for when we retained her as one of the first mares of our second homebred generation.

Following his grading result, Midas has been retained as a potential stallion prospect. As with all of our potential stallions, we want him to earn that opportunity through his own quality rather than his pedigree alone. His development, conformation, temperament, movement and, in time, ridden ability and performance will all play a part in deciding whether he is ultimately presented for licensing.

For now, his High Premium grading and exceptional movement scores provide a very exciting starting point. We are looking forward to giving Midas the time to mature naturally, developing him carefully for the future and seeing whether he can ultimately earn his place as part of the next generation of stallions within our breeding programme.
