Jolien MC is an important mare within our breeding programme, by Alexandro P out of a Zichem mare, bringing together established Dutch dressage and Gelderlander bloodlines. A substantial, powerful mare with a lovely temperament, Jolien has consistently produced quality offspring with strength, movement and excellent characters. Through her daughters and sons, she has become an important foundation for a family we are continuing to develop within our breeding programme.

Jolien MC is an important mare within our breeding programme, by Alexandro P out of Ursa, by Zichem. Her pedigree brings together established Dutch dressage breeding with traditional Gelderlander blood, giving us a slightly different genetic foundation to many of our other mares and one that we particularly value within our breeding programme.

Jolien’s sire, Alexandro P, is by Koss out of a Satelliet mare and represents some of the traditional Gelderlander breeding that has played an important role in the development of the modern Dutch sport horse. Alexandro P himself competed to Z level dressage before becoming particularly influential through his breeding career.

One of the things we particularly value about Alexandro P is his influence as a broodmare sire. His blood continues to appear behind successful modern sport horses, demonstrating the ability of these more traditional lines to contribute strength, movement and performance ability to subsequent generations.

A particularly notable example is Henkie, ridden internationally by Adelinde Cornelissen. With Alexandro P as his damsire, Henkie represented the Netherlands at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses as a five-, six- and seven-year-old, finishing within the top eight on each occasion.

Behind Alexandro P are established Gelderlander names including Koss, Satelliet, Uriant and Hoogheid. These older Dutch lines are particularly interesting to us for the strength, functionality, character and movement they can contribute when combined with more modern sport-horse breeding.

The quality of Jolien’s pedigree is also supported much closer to home through her immediate family. Her full sister, Nadien MC, is also by Alexandro P out of Ursa and has been particularly successful within the KWPN breeding programme.

As a three-year-old, Nadien MC finished third at the 2021 KWPN National Mare Inspection (NMK) in the Gelderlander mare championship. She subsequently developed into an even more successful mature mare, becoming day champion at the 2022 Dag van het Gelders Paard before being crowned National Champion of the older Gelderlander mares at the 2022 KWPN National Mare Inspection.

For us, Nadien’s success is particularly significant because it provides evidence of the quality within Jolien’s immediate female family, rather than relying solely on influential stallions further back within the pedigree. The conformation, movement and overall quality within the family have been recognised at national level within the KWPN breeding programme.

Jolien’s dam, Ursa, is by Zichem, adding another established Dutch influence to the maternal side of the pedigree. Combined with Alexandro P, this gives Jolien a concentration of blood that is becoming increasingly unusual within modern dressage breeding.

That is one of the reasons we particularly value Jolien. Her pedigree is not simply made up of the fashionable dressage stallions that appear repeatedly throughout many modern pedigrees. Instead, she gives us access to established Dutch and Gelderlander blood that we can combine selectively with modern performance stallions.

Jolien has already demonstrated how successfully this can work through the horses she has produced for us.

With our own stallion CE Jetialo IS, by Apache out of an Edison mare, Jolien produced CE D’Acampo’s Joy and her full brother CE D’Acampo’s Conviction (Victor). This combination brought together Jolien’s traditional Dutch foundation with the more modern international dressage blood of Apache and UB40.

Joy developed into a particularly strong and substantial filly with a wonderfully kind, quiet and easy-going temperament and has since been sold to a young rider. Her full brother Victor has also been sold, giving us another example of Jolien producing horses to continue their careers with new owners.

Jolien is also the dam of CE Soleil Fontienne (Sunny), by Sénégal de Fontaine. This mating introduced a very different modern performance line through Sénégal, who is by Springbank II VH out of Wendy de Fontaine, while retaining Jolien’s established Dutch foundation on the maternal side.

Sunny has developed into a strong, well-made filly with very good movement and a particularly solid, dependable temperament. She gives us another encouraging example of Jolien's ability to combine successfully with modern dressage blood while continuing to pass on many of the qualities we associate with her.

This consistency is one of the things we value most about Jolien. Across different stallion combinations, we continue to see strength, substance, quality of movement and good characters within her offspring.

Temperament is particularly important to us. Ultimately, we want to breed talented horses that are also trainable and enjoyable for people to work with. The kind and dependable characters we have seen in Jolien’s offspring are therefore every bit as important to us as movement or pedigree.

Jolien also gives us valuable genetic diversity within our broodmare band. Her Alexandro P, Koss, Satelliet and Zichem background provides a foundation of established Dutch and Gelderlander blood that can be crossed with carefully selected modern stallions without simply concentrating the same fashionable bloodlines generation after generation.

Ultimately, Jolien MC represents the balance between traditional breeding and the modern sport horse that we want to retain within our programme. She comes from an immediate family whose quality has been recognised at national KWPN level through her full sister Nadien MC, while the wider influence of Alexandro P can still be seen within successful modern performance horses.

Through Joy, Victor and Sunny, we are now beginning to establish our own branch of that family. The consistency we have seen so far gives us an exciting foundation from which to continue developing the line, while preserving the strength, movement and, importantly, the excellent temperaments that have made Jolien such a valuable mare within our breeding programme.
