CE Gräfinwein
Filly | Bay | To make 16.1hh
CE Gräfinwein is a homebred filly by the exceptional eventing stallion Grafenstolz out of CE Da Vinci’s Red Red Wine. Combining proven international eventing blood with Rummi’s established dressage pedigree, she represents an exciting blend of athleticism, movement and versatility. Gräfinwein was sold to an amateur client, where we look forward to following her journey and seeing how she develops for the future.
CE Gräfinwein is by the exceptional Trakehner stallion Grafenstolz TSF out of our second-generation homebred mare CE Da Vinci’s Red Red Wine (Rummi). This was a particularly exciting combination for us, bringing together Rummi’s established dressage breeding with one of the most proven eventing sires of his generation.
Grafenstolz has the unusual distinction of having demonstrated genuine ability across all three disciplines. As a six-year-old with Michael Jung, he qualified for the German Bundeschampionate in dressage, showjumping and eventing in the same year. He went on to become German Bundeschampion of the six-year-old event horses with a score of 9.7 and won the World Championship for Young Event Horses at Le Lion d’Angers that same year. He subsequently competed successfully through three-star eventing and won bronze at the German Eventing Championships before later competing successfully at Prix St Georges dressage.
His influence as a sire has arguably become even more significant than his own performance career. Grafenstolz headed the WBFSH world eventing sire rankings in 2020 and remained among the world's leading eventing sires in subsequent years. His offspring include horses proven at championship and five-star level. Most notably, he is the sire of Lordships Graffalo, who has won Badminton three times with Ros Canter and added World Championship individual silver and team gold in 2026. Grafenstolz is also the sire of Olympic team bronze medallist Absolut Gold HDC, further demonstrating his ability to produce horses for the very highest levels of eventing.
Gräfinwein’s dam, Rummi, provides a very different but complementary influence. She is by our own CE Sir Fidermeyer out of CE Idonae, bringing together established German and Dutch dressage bloodlines. Through CE Sir Fidermeyer she carries Sir Fidergold, Sarkozy, Fidermark and Weltmeyer, while CE Idonae contributes UB40 and international Grand Prix stallion Junior STV.
The maternal line is particularly strong in proven dressage performance. UB40 is the sire of Grand Prix stallion Apache, while Junior STV progressed from winning the Pavo Cup as both a four- and five-year-old to international Grand Prix dressage with Anky van Grunsven. This gives Gräfinwein a dam line with generations of breeding selected for movement, trainability and dressage ability.
Rummi is also beginning to establish herself through the quality of her own offspring. Her son CE Toreador, by Secret Secret, was the highest graded AES foal of 2025, while CE Ecstasy of Gold, by Morricone III, achieved a High Premium grading in 2026. Gräfinwein therefore comes from a young mare whose ability to produce quality across different stallions is already beginning to show.
Gräfinwein’s pedigree brings together two slightly different sides of sport-horse breeding: the movement and dressage performance behind Rummi with the gallop, jumping ability, stamina and versatility associated with Grafenstolz and his successful eventing offspring. It was a combination designed to produce an athletic, versatile sport horse rather than breeding solely towards one discipline.
Gräfinwein has now been sold to an amateur owner, and we are really looking forward to following her progress. With the versatility within her pedigree, we hope she will develop into a talented but enjoyable horse for her owner and are excited to see where her future takes her.
