Idonae
Mare | Chestnut | 17hh
Idonae is an important foundation mare within our breeding programme, by UB40 out of a Junior STV mare. Her pedigree brings together some of the most influential Dutch dressage bloodlines, with proven Grand Prix performance throughout. More importantly, Idonae has established a particularly valuable maternal family for us, with her daughters and subsequent generations consistently producing quality. Her influence can now be seen across a growing number of our homebred horses, making her one of the mares at the heart of the CE breeding programme.
CE Idonae is one of the most important foundation mares within our breeding programme. By UB40 out of a Junior STV mare, she combines established Dutch dressage blood with an exceptionally strong maternal family whose influence can be seen both in international sport and through the subsequent generations we have bred from Idonae ourselves.
Her sire, UB40, is by Olivi out of the Michelangelo mare Kilucienne and became an important influence within Dutch dressage breeding. He is perhaps best known as the sire of Apache, who progressed to international Grand Prix with Emmelie Scholtens, represented the Netherlands at championship level and subsequently became an influential breeding stallion in his own right.
Idonae’s maternal line adds another significant performance influence through Junior STV. Junior STV was an exceptional young dressage horse, winning the Pavo Cup as both a four- and five-year-old with Anky van Grunsven before progressing through the higher levels. His sire, Uniform, adds further established Dutch dressage breeding behind the family.
What makes this maternal line particularly valuable to us, however, is the depth of performance within the wider family. Idonae comes from a family that has repeatedly produced successful dressage horses, including Jaydonae, Kaeny, Adonae and Enzo.
Kaeny, by Governor, has progressed to international Prix St Georges and Intermediate I, competing successfully at CDI level with Jessica Buying. Jaydonae, by El Capone, has also competed at Prix St Georges, including in Sweden. Alongside them, Adonae, another daughter of UB40, and Enzo add further successful dressage performers to the family.
This depth is particularly important to us when evaluating a broodmare. Rather than Idonae's performance credentials relying solely on famous stallions within her pedigree, she comes from a maternal family that has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to produce dressage horses capable of progressing through the levels.
Idonae has subsequently become equally important through what she has produced for us. Her daughters have allowed us to establish our own branches of this already successful mare family and are now producing another generation of CE horses.
One of the most important is CE Da Vinci’s Red Red Wine (Rummi), by our own CE Sir Fidermeyer. Rummi was backed and competed at Prelim level before moving into our breeding programme relatively early in her career, and she is now establishing an exciting production record of her own.
Rummi's offspring include CE Toreador (Tintin), by Secret Secret, who was the highest graded AES foal of 2025, and CE Ecstasy of Gold (Midas), by Morricone III, who achieved a High Premium at the 2026 AES Foal Grading with outstanding individual movement marks of 9.25 for walk, 9 for trot and 8.75 for canter.
Idonae is also the dam of CE UB Glamorous (Cesha), by Glamourdale, who we have retained as a future performance prospect. Cesha achieved a High Gold at the 2026 BEF Futurity, with her canter receiving particularly strong recognition.
For us, this is what makes Idonae such an important mare. She combines UB40 and Junior STV with a maternal family already proven through horses such as Kaeny and Jaydonae, while her own descendants are now beginning to establish achievements of their own.
Through Rummi, Cesha and the next generation represented by horses such as Tintin and Midas, we are beginning to develop our own branch of this successful family. It gives us the opportunity not simply to breed from an impressive pedigree, but to follow how the qualities within that family are carried forward and expressed across different stallion combinations and successive generations.
Idonae represents exactly what we want from a foundation mare — depth of performance within the family behind her, quality within her own offspring, and daughters capable of carrying that influence forward into another generation. As those horses continue into sport and breeding, we are incredibly excited to see how far Idonae's influence can ultimately extend within the CE breeding programme.
